Updates on our progress towards building a more Bicycle Friendly America.

Bob,

To build a Bicycle Friendly America, one where every person can safely and easily choose to bike, every part of a community must be committed to our shared mission. The League's Bicycle Friendly America program recognizes the businesses, communities, and universitiesworking in tandem with local advocates and the League to promote and encourage bicycling as a means of transportation, fun, and fitness.

This past week,we honored 33 new and renewing Bicycle Friendly Businesses in our Spring 2021 round. Every round, we recognize businessescreating a welcoming and safe environment forthose who bike to workor shop at their establishments. These businesses join a total of 1,425 businesses across all 50 states and Washington, D.C. pedaling towards safer streets and better bicycling for everyone. (Think your business should be one of them?Learn how here.)

The Bike Boom Isn't Over.“As the country begins to open up schools, stores, restaurants, office spaces and entertainment venues, people are eager to get back to physically going there. We have an opportunity to help keep the bike boom going by making sure that people can safely and conveniently get to where they need to go on two wheels,” - Bill Nesper, executive director of the League of American Bicyclists.

Don't Stop Biking There!Even though National Bike Month ~technically~ ended in May, every month is Bike Month at the League! Summer is basically here and there are plenty of great ways you can get out and enjoy bicycling.

1. Sign up for the National Bike Challenge:get credit for all the miles you've been biking!Visit our partners at Love to Ride to sign-up»

2. Plan a bike ride:If you're itching to get together with friends or family and want an affordable and fun outdoor activity, plan a group bike ride around a trail or to a local coffee shop for drinks.

3. Make biking a part of your getaway:Research where you can bike before you go. Lots of beachesencourage biking along the boardwalk with bike rentals and designated hours for bikers.

Pedaling Forward:Not long after the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) releasedthe draft of its next five-year transportation reauthorization bill, the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee released its own version, theINVEST in America Act. This transformative bill will help reset America’s infrastructure by refocusing on safer, more people-oriented streets for all. Thanks to the House representatives who lead on this bill and helped it pass out of committee.
