GOBA Returning to North Central Ohio
Findlay – Tiffin – Upper Sandusky – Bellefontaine – Kenton
DCC again will provide SAG service to members
By Kay Wert Minardi, DCC newsletter editor and GOBA SAG coordinator
There’s no place like the DCC’s GOBA SAG service.
Columbus Outdoor Pursuits is celebrating the 29th anniversary of the Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure with a return to north central Ohio, and the Dayton Cycling Club will again offer a GOBA SAG service. COP describes the terrain of the June 17-24 family bicycle tour as “mostly flat to rolling.” The minimum mileage for the week is 271, and the maximum is 431.
GOBA riders will gather Saturday, June 17, at the Hancock County Fairgrounds in Findlay. On Father’s Day, riders will travel 55 miles to Tiffin. Monday will be a layover day with an optional 60-mile loop. Tuesday’s ride to Upper Sandusky will be 50 miles long. A 56-mile trek to Bellefontaine follows on Wednesday. Thursday’s layover day in Bellefontaine will offer optional 48- and 100-mile loops that will include the highest point in Ohio. The ride to Kenton on Friday will be 61 miles, and the tour ends Saturday with a 49-mile return to Findlay.
The DCC’s GOBA SAG service involves a rental truck that carries participants’ luggage and supplies from town to town, and a minivan that makes daily runs for drinks, ice and snacks. The DCC pays the GOBA registration fees of a full-time truck driver and a full-time van driver, so this is a nice way for non-riders to accompany cycling spouses. If you are interested in driving the truck or van, contact Mark Minardi at (937) 760-3993 as soon as possible.
This service costs $50 for DCC members. Non-members who wish to participate must join the DCC, which costs $10 for a junior (through age 17), $20 for an adult, or $30 per family (two spouses plus their junior dependents). You may also choose to join for more than one year. To join or renew, go to http://daytoncyclingclub.org/membership/joinrenew/. These fees guarantee space on a 24-foot rental truck for several small bags of gear plus a lawn chair for each participant. Ice-cold drinks and snacks will await riders each afternoon under popup shelters.
Participants must register separately for GOBA (see http://goba.com/wordpress/) and send us their GOBA numbers upon receipt.
The DCC SAG service can accommodate up to 100 people. We accept applications in the order received. No reservations without payment. You may register before knowing your DCC or GOBA numbers, but we need to know these numbers as soon as you receive them.
